Benedict, Ruth Fulton

Benedict, Ruth Fulton
A student of Franz Boas at Columbia University, Benedict conducted her first fieldwork in the early 1920s, developing a strong interest in comparative studies. She was subsequently influenced by psychological theory and is closely associated with the so-called Culture and Personality School of American anthropology. Her best-known works are probably Patterns of Culture (1934) and The Chrysanthemum and the Sword (1946).
